Spelts finished the contest hitting a match-high .557, committing just two errors on 26 swings.
Despite a career-high 17 kills from sophomore middle blocker Joelie Spelts, it wasn't enough as Eastern Washington handed Montana State a 25-27, 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 15-13 setback on Thursday night in Shroyer Gym.
Spelts, a product of Gillette, Wyo., paced four Montana State (5-11, 3-2) players in double figure kills. Madilyn Siebler 16, Camryn Greenwald 14, and Jourdain Kamps 12 paced MSU offensively, as well. Spelts finished the contest hitting a match-high .557, committing just two errors on 26 swings.
"We'll take that in the middle," said MSU head coach Matt Houk referring to Spelts' production. "We're going to need that from her. Hopefully, that's a spark for her, and hopefully, it's something she sees that she can be effective like that."
Defensively, the Bobcats were led by Lauren Lindseth with 23 digs. Siebler, Audrey Hofer, and Courtney Weatherby each added 11 saves, while Nellie Stevenson chipped in ten. Kamps, Spelts, and Jordan Radick all recorded six blocks for the Bobcats.
Bri Gunderson guided Eastern Washington (6-8, 2-2) with 20 kills and 12 blocks.
Montana State hosts Idaho on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
