Senior pole vaulter earns honor after big performance in Spokane on Friday
FARMINGTON, Utah – Senior pole vaulter Colby Wilson was named Big Sky Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Wilson, a native of Olympia, Washington, stood out in a return to his home state on Friday, placing second in a competitive field at the Spokane Sports Showcase at The Podium.
The senior, who set both the Montana State and Big Sky Conference indoor record for the pole vault last January by clearing 5.52m (18-01.25), went toe-to-toe with Stanford's Garrett Brown and cleared 5.40m (17-08.5) on Friday, matching Brown but getting runner-up on the tiebreak.
Wilson's mark is currently tied for the fifth-best vault in NCAA Division I this season, and is the second-best mark of his career behind only the record-breaking performance last winter.
Montana State returns to action on Friday, January 26, at the Bobcat Performance meet at Worthington Arena.
