Three Bobcats Fire 76 to Lead Montana State in First Round of 2023 Bobcat Desert Classic

MSU stands in ninth place entering Monday's second round
Three Bobcats fired a four-over 76 to lead Montana State on day one of MSU's Bobcat Desert Classic at Goodyear, Arizona, on Sunday.
Scarlet Weidig Velasquez, Kameryn Basye and Lauren Greeny each shot an opening round 76 to tie for 20th. The Cats stand in ninth place out of 11 teams in the three-day, three-round event at the Golf Club of Estrella. The event continues with Monday's second round. MSU's first-round team total is 311.
"We need to play better," said Bobcat coach Brittany Basye. "We have a lot of strokes to make up. These ladies are better than they played today. They need to just go play golf, and we're looking forward to getting back on the course (on Monday)."
Jordan Briggs shot an 83 to tie for 53rd place for Montana State, while Maddie Montoya's 85 is good for 58th place. Playing as an individual, MSU's Lauren Basye shot an 84 and is tied for 56th.
Second round play begins at 10 am on Monday.
