Bobcat Golfers Battle Through Windy Conditions in First Two Rounds of Cowgirl Classic
4/3/2023 9:01:00 PM | Women's Golf
Scarlet Weidig Velasquez posted MSU's low two-round score on Monday
Scarlet Weidig Velasquez fired a two-round total of 156 and Kameryn Basye shot 157 to lead Montana State through the first two rounds of the Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Arizona on Monday.
Weidig Velasquez stands in a tie for 56th place entering Tuesday's final round, while Basye is tied for 63rd. The Bobcats stand in a 19th-place tie with rival Montana through two rounds, but remain within nine strokes of 15th-place Idaho (628) in the 20-team field. Lauren Greeney (tied for 70th, 158) and Maddie Montoya (tied for 104th, 168) round out MSU's soring team members. Jordan Briggs shot a 169 (tied for 106th).
"We need to find consistency," said Bobcat coach Brittany Basye. "We're looking forward to getting back on the course tomorrow and finishing strong."
Basye indicated that weather conditions deteriorated through the course of the day, and scoring reflected that notion. Each of the tournament's 20 teams scored worse in the second 18-hole round than the first. The third and final round of play begins at 7:30 am on Tuesday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course.
