All Montana State had to do was escape the snow and cold to start posting numbers its familiar with at the point of the outdoor season. Paced by Duncan Hamilton's 5000-meter performance (13:31.12) several Bobcats moved up the Big Sky Conference performance lists on Friday running at the Bryan Clay Invite and Beach Invitational in southern California.

Hamilton, a Bozeman native, ran in the opening heat of Friday night's 5000m invite, which started at 10:47 p.m. (mountain time). He posted the seventh best time in his section, won by Washington's Brian Fay in 13:21.99. Levi Taylor, a junior from Laurel, placed 23^rd in the fourth heat with a clocking of 14:08.22, and earlier in the day, Rob McManus placed second in his heat in the 5000m Open event in 14:00.19.

In the throws, Matt Furdyk improved his discus mark with a toss of 171-1 (52.16), while Talon Holmquist went 50-3.5 in the shot put.

Jada Smith improved her time in the 800-meters, notching 2:14.04 on Friday. MSU's final racer Friday, Mya Dube, went 17:22.63 in the 5000m for her best mark of the spring.

The Bobcats will finish the Bryan Clay Invite and the Beach Invitational on Saturday.
