Kameryn Basye, Scarlet Weidig Velasquez continue to pace Bobcats
Montana State trimmed three strokes off its first-round score, posting a second-round 308 to move into a tie for seventh place after two rounds of the Bobcat Desert Classic. The Cats fired a 308 for a two-round score of 619.
Kameryn Basye and Scarlet Weidig Velasquez finished in a dead heat for the second straight day to pace the Bobcats. Each followed a first-round 76 with a 77 on Monday. Lauren Greeny topped her first-round 76 with a 78, but Maddie Montoya carded a 76 on Monday. That was a nine-stroke improvement, to move into 49th. Jordan Briggs is tied for 53rd at 165, and playing as an individua Lauren Basye is tied for 56th with a 166.
Montana State survived an up-and-down round to move up in the standings, capitalizing on a strong finish. "That was a positive," Bobcat head coach Brittany Basye said of her team's finish. "We have to play better on Wednesday, we need to make some birdies. We have to bring it and play with no fear and not think too much. We just need to let it happen."
Wednesday's closing round is Montana State's last in competition before next week's Big Sky Conference Championship tournament. Play begins at 7:30 am at The Golf Club at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona.
