The Montana State women's golf team kicks off April with tournament play on Monday when the Bobcats participate in the 2022 Cowgirl Classic. The 54-hole event, hosted by University of Wyoming, is set to tee off at AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in Maricopa, Ariz.
The tournament will feature a total of 21 teams participating. MSU will be up against host University of Wyoming, along with seven Big Sky foes in University of Idaho, Portland State University, Eastern Washington University, Southern Utah University, Northern Arizona University, University of Northern Colorado and University of Montana.
"Kameryn and Hannah are the only ones that have played here. This is a really nice course with open big greens so we have to be good about hitting fairways and greens," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "We have to go out there and play smart. We have had a couple days of outside practice so I hope that'll better prepare us for the weekend."
The women representing Montana State in this meet will be Kameryn Basye, Jordan Briggs, Cora Rosanova, Hannah Rosanova, and Lucita Prieto Romano.
The Bobcats are coming off the Red Rocks Invitational, which was the last March tournament of the spring 2022 season. Senior Kameryn Basye scored highest for the Bobcats as she tied 66th out of 104 by shooting 235 strokes. Lucia Prieto Romano also tied for 66th with a 235 as she competed individually in the tournament. Cora Rosanova finished tied for 79th with a score of 238, Hannah Rosanova finished tied for 86th with 240, Jordan Briggs took 95th with a score of 244, and Sofia Rodriguez Todd placed 104th with a 257.
"We are looking for a good bounce back after the last tournament," Basye said. "Mentally 36 holes the first day, the weather will be hot, so we need to be mentally strong over the course of the two days. There will be eight conference teams as begin a three-week stretch in Arizona as we are gearing up for conference."
Monday invitational play begins at 8 a.m. The final day of action is expected to start at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Results for the invitational will be available on Golfstat.com with links found on the team's schedule page on msubobcats.com.
