Basye, Briggs Lead Bobcats During Opening Day at GCU Invite

The Montana State golf team works back into tournament play during the first and second rounds of the Grand Canyon Invitational.
Phoenix, Ariz. - The Montana State golf team works back into tournament play during the first and second rounds of the Grand Canyon Invitational as the Bobcats sit 17th out of 20 in the standings. The team played 36 holes on Monday at the Grand Canyon Golf Course.
Junior Kameryn Basye led the Bobcats in the first round with a 1-over-par 73 and secured eight total birdies on the day. Getting back into the swing of things, Jordan Briggs scored a 78, Cora Rosanova finished with an 80, Lucia Prieto Romano secured an 82, and Hannah Rosanova finished at 83 strokes.
Briggs led the team in the second round and finished with a 74, which included an eagle on hole 10, a 496-yard par five. Basye scored a 78, Cora Rosanova and Hannah Rosanova showed their consistency with another 80 and 83 respectively, and Prieto Romano improved with an 80 rounding out her first day of competition this spring.
Through 36 holes of play, Basye is MSU's leader in the individual standings as she's tied for 44th at 7-over 151. Briggs is tied for 52nd at 8-over 152. Cora Rosanova (160) is tied for 83rd, Prieto Romano (162) is tied for 92nd and Hannah Rosanova (166) is in 102nd overall. The Bobcats have a combined 625 strokes (313-312) through the first two rounds of action in Phoenix. Host Grand Canyon sits atop the team leader chart with a 570.
"We had a good first round by Kameryn and good second round by Jordan," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "The big numbers need to go away and we need to drop more putts! I am hopeful we will see some aggressive swings and knock some putts in tomorrow."
Montana State continues play at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Tuesday morning. The Bobcats will tee off at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start.
