The Montana State women's golf team begins the spring tournament play on Monday when the Bobcats take part in the 2022 Mountain Classic Matchplay. The 54-hole event, hosted by the University of Wyoming and Boise State University, is set to tee off at Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.
The tournament will feature a total of eight teams participating, with two individual players. MSU will be up against hosts University of Wyoming and Boise State University, along with Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Seattle University, and Utah Valley University. The only opposing conference school participating is Portland State University.
"This is a new course/tournament for us, it is match play on a course none of the ladies have played," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "With that being said, we have played this course in the past as Wyoming hosts an event here in October, so I have been to Classic Club many times and know how it sets up.
"We have been working the last few weeks on accuracy with our tee shots, to the green shots, and lots of putting. This course will demand some precision shots off the tee box as the fairways can be narrow. The greens are also long and narrow so being accurate is going to be key," Brittany Basye explained.
The women representing Montana State in this meet will be Kameryn Basye, Jordan Briggs, Cora Rosanova, Hannah Rosanova, and Sofia Rodriguez Todd.
The Bobcats are coming off of the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic which closed out their fall season. Returning player Jordan Briggs finished the tournament at 16-over-par 232 after three rounds and tied for 45th individually. As Briggs secured the top score, Kameryn Basye finished close behind at 51st with 234 strokes. Excited to get back into action, all the girls are eager to hit the tee and start the spring season strong.
"I am excited to get out and compete again," Brittany Basye said. "Being on grass taking divots, seeing ball flights and golf balls actually rolling on a true green will be great."
Monday tournament play begins at 7 a.m. local time with Montana State facing off against Boise State in match up play action. The final day of action is expected to start at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
