The Sun Devils had one of the most memorable games in Worthington Arena in its consolation win over New Mexico. ASU was the victim of a food poisoning episode and finished the game against the Lobos with four players. ASU won the contest 85-71 behind Melani Francis' heroic 41-point effort.
BOBCAT BITES: Montana State returns four starters, including preseason Big Sky Conference MVP pick Darian White and preseason all-conference selection Kola Bad Bear. The duo led the Bobcats to a 22-13 overall mark, a 14-6 Big Sky Conference ledger, a Big Sky tourney title, and the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance, last season.
PRESEASON ACCOLADES: Montana State seniors Darian White and Kola Bad Bear each earned preseason Big Sky All-Conference team recognition, announced by the league office. White was named preseason MVP and was one of two players unanimously selected to the team, while Bad Bear gained all-league accolades, as well. White, a product of Boise, Idaho, was the 2022 Big Sky Conference Tournament MVP after averaging 18.3 points, 5.0 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals over the course of MSU's three-game run to guide the program to its third trip to the NCAA tournament. On the season, the two-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year, led the Bobcats in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game, while also chipping in 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.5 steals. She is the only player in MSU history to record over 1,225 points, 425 rebounds, 325 assists and 225 steals in a career. Bad Bear, who was a 2022 All-Big Sky Third Team pick, had a breakout performance at last year's Big Sky tournament, averaging 17 points per game, while shooting 61.3% from the field, en route to being name to the all-tournament team. The Billings Senior grad was second on the team in scoring averaging 10.9 points and led MSU under the glass averaging 5.0 rebounds per contest.
THE SCOUTING REPORT: Arizona State enters Tuesday's contest 2-0 overall notching wins over Northern Arizona (69-68) and Grambling State (62-49). So far this season, the Sun Devils have been paced by Jaddan Simmons, Tyi Skinner, and Treasure Hunt, who have averaged 17, 14 and 10 points per game, respectively. In its season-opener against NAU, Simmons, a 5-9 junior guard from Houston, Texas, led ASU with 22 points on 7-of-11 from the field. In its win over Grambling, Skinner, a 5-5 junior guard from Washington D.C., paced the Sun Devils with 16 points, while Hunt and Simmons chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively. Under the glass, Arizona State is guided by Meg Newman and Kayla Mokwuah, who average 6.5 and 6.0 rebounds, respectively. Arizona State is under the direction of Natasha Adair, who is in her first season in Tempe. She previously coached at Delaware.
