FARMINGTON, Utah – Following a season without a Big Sky Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, all 22 programs are prepared for a big season of competition. In preparation, the league office has announced the 2021-22 Preseason Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Coaches' Polls.
The Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona have been tabbed as the projected top team on both the men's and women's sides going into the season receiving all 11 first-place votes. NAU's men have won nine consecutive Big Sky Indoor titles dating back to 2012 and have won 11 of the previous 12 available trophies. On the women's side, NAU is the defending Big Sky champions and have won three of the previous four titles with Sacramento State claiming the title in 2019.
The preseason rankings are voted on by the league's head coaches.
Montana State was tabbed second by the coaches in the league with 103 votes in the men's poll. The Bobcats were slotted ahead of Weber State (88), Idaho (82) and Idaho State (69).
The Bobcat women's squad was selected fourth with 84 votes. MSU narrowly trailed Sacramento State (86) in the poll while NAU (121) and Weber State (100) were the top two vote getters.
Montana State makes its 2022 debut on Feb. 14 when the program hosts the Bobcat Challenge in Worthington Arena. MSU is scheduled to host three indoor meets in the run up to the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships which will be held in Bozeman from Feb. 24-26.
