Montana State Track & Field Closes Out Weekend on Road

Montana State completed its final weekend appearance of meets ahead of the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Montana State completed its final weekend appearance of meets ahead of the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The Bobcats had strong showings at both the Oregon State High Performance Meet and the Texas Invitational in Austin.
Carla Nicosia had MSU's best individual finish on Saturday as the MSU senior took first in the women's triple jump in Corvallis. Her leap of 40 feet, 7.75 inches (12.39m) set a Whyte Track and Field Center facility record.
Drake Schneider, Alec Nehring and Carley VonHeeder all earned top-three finishes in their respective events.
Sccneider placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at the Texas Invitational. His time of 51.30 seconds was the fastest registered by a collegiate athlete in the event. VonHeeder and Nehring both appeared in the OSU meet and took third in the javelin and shot put, respectively. VonHeeder completed a throw of 153-03 (46.73m) and Nehring recorded a mark of 56-06.50 (17.23m).
Derrick Olsen took fifth in the 110 hurdles in his appearance at Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium. He completed a time of 14.24 seconds. Rounding out MSU's day were Cooper Hoffman and Cantor Coverdell as each participated in the men's javelin at the OSU event. Hoffman placed fifth with a throw of 191-02 (58.27m) while Coverdell (189-09) took eighth.
The Montana State track and field program hosts its final remaining meet prior to the conference championships. MSU will hold Senior Day at the Tom Gage Invitational which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex.
