BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State men's basketball team makes it return to Worthington Arena Monday for the first of two exhibition matchups. The Bobcats host Providence out of Great Falls for a 7 p.m. tipoff in Bozeman.
It will be the first time the MSU men's squad will play in front of a home crowd since the 2019-20 season. The ability to get the team in front of a crowd was the main factor for the additional exhibition set up against the Argos.
"That was one of the reasons we did two exhibitions instead of a scrimmage," Montana State head coach Danny Sprinkle said. "We wanted our guys to play at home in front of the fans. One, for the fans, hopefully they're excited to get back because we're excited to have them. But also, I need to see what some of these new guys can do under the lights. Sometimes guys are different than they are at practice. They've got to show it under the lights when the popcorn is popping."
The 'Cats are coming off a season which ended in the Big Sky Conference championship game in Boise. The program returns eight letterwinners from a season ago and features a roster with eight newcomers.
MSU follows its exhibition on Monday with another on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. versus Yellowstone Christian. Both contests will provide the Bobcats an opportunity to get experience on the court as well as in front of fans before they open the 2021-22 season on Nov. 9 at Colorado.
"I know they're really looking forward to playing against somebody else," Sprinkle said. "We've been playing against each other all summer and all fall. I can tell the last 5-6 practices that they're ready to see somebody in a different jersey."
Both exhibition games versus Providence and Yellowstone Christian will not be streamed or have a radio broadcast. All single game tickets go on sale tomorrow and can be purchased at msubobcats.com/tickets.
