LAST STAND: Montana State will close out its home season when it hosts Sacramento State and Northern Arizona this week. The Bobcats, riding an 11-game win streak, will face the Hornets on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena. On Saturday, MSU will host Northern Arizona at 2 p.m. as it celebrates its five seniors making their last appearances in Worthington Arena.
SERIES NOTE: The Cats hold a 35-12 lead in its all-time series with Sacramento State going back to the first contest on Jan. 24, 1997- a 70-51 MSU win in Worthington Arena. MSU has won three straight in the series and has captured ten of the last 12 meetings. Sac's last win at MSU was Dec. 20, 2012 (69-65).
CAT OF THE WEEK: Six Bobcats earned Cat of the Week honors after averaging double-figures against Portland State and Montana. They are Fallyn Freije (18.5 ppg), Darian White (16.5 ppg), Tori Martell (12.5 ppg), Blaire Braxton (11.5 ppg), Madeline Smith (11.0 ppg) and Oliana Squires (10.0 ppg). In a rare occurrence, over the past two weeks the Bobcats have had six (seven in all) players average double-figure scoring in back-to-back two-game series.
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS: MSU has done a solid job on the defensive end this season. The Cats lead the Big Sky in total rebounds (42.7 rpg), rebounding defense (34.4 rpg), rebound margin (+8.3 rpg) and steals (9.7 spg). They are second in FG percentage defense (37.1%), third in scoring defense (62.1 ppg) and three-point FG percentage (30.6%), and fourth in defensive rebounds (27.8 rpg). MSU boasts five players that average 4.4 rebounds or better in league play led by Fallyn Freije (8.6), Darian White (5.4), Madeline Smith (4.9), Blaire Braxton (4.9) and Martha Kuderer (4.4).
OFFENSE HELPS, TOO: MSU is also one of the top offensive squads in the Big Sky. White's total ranks 25th in the nation overall…Darian White's 65 steals on the season is the highest total for a freshman in the nation this winter. Her 65 steals rank 32nd in the country overall…Darian White's 81.8% free throw percentage ranks tenth in the country for freshmen. MSU's victories have come over Montana, twice, when the Lady Griz were ranked. The Bobcats defeated #17 Montana (58-52 in Bozeman) on March 4, 1994 as well as #16 Montana (58-56 in Bozeman) on March 5, 1988. Squires dished out a season-best eight assists in MSU's win over Portland State on Thursday night. She had a season-best four steals at Idaho on Feb.6. The senior tri-captain has posted 39 three-pointers and 77 assists this season. Last winter, Squires earned All-Big Sky Third-Team accolades after guiding the Bobcats averaging 11.4 ppg, 3.8 apg and 3.5 rpg.

She has been in double-digits on ten occasions, including a career-high 23 points to lead MSU to a victory over Sacramento State Dec. 28. In Big Sky games, the Eden Prairie, Minn., product is averaging 10.7 points per game, while shooting 47.6% from the field. In addition, she is hitting at a 42.9% percent clip from beyond the arc and has connected on 18-of-42 three-pointers in 15 Big Sky Conference games.
BOUNDING WITH BLAIRE: Blaire Braxton, who played in all 31 games, including seven starts for the Bobcats last winter, is currently averaging 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. PRESEASON MVP: Despite not playing in a game for over a year and not ever wearing the Blue and Gold, senior Fallyn Freije was named preseason Big Sky Conference MVP. The Edmore, N.D. product played three seasons at North Dakota before transferring to Bozeman. Freije was a two-time All-Big Sky performer for the Fighting Hawks, where she averaged 13.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as a junior. She played in 90 games and started in 58. Freije has recorded 1,178 points and has amassed 702 rebounds over the course of her collegiate career.
DEEP FREIJE: Senior Fallyn Freije is averaging a team-best 13.6 points per game. She is first on the squad pulling down 7.9 rebounds, as well. On the season, Freije has been in double-digit scoring on 20 occasions, including a career-high 27 points in MSU's overtime win at Montana on Feb. 1. Martell, who filled in for Oliana Squires for four games, notched a season-high 17 points in MSU's double overtime win at Eastern Washington. As part of the starting rotation, she averaged 12 points per game and connected on 11 three-pointers.
