
MSU Starts Strong at Husky Classic; Completes Showing in Albuquerque

The Bobcats record multiple personal bests to open the Husky Classic, while several 'Cats close out the Don Kirby Elite Invite
SEATTLE, Wash. – Montana State track and field had contingents of student-athletes competing in separate cities on Friday, Feb. 13. The Bobcats' finished their appearance at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while their second group of competitors got started at Washington's Husky Classic.
Elena Carter, Morgan Evans, Will Prettyman and Casey Gunlikson each nearly advanced to finals races in Albuquerque. Carter placed ninth overall in the women's 60-meter hurdles by crossing the line in 8.80 seconds, one spot away from racing a second time. She also placed 48th in the 60 with a time of 7.92. Evans placed 11th overall in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.86 and also took 61st in the 60 at 8.03.
Prettyman and Gunlikson finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the men's 60 dash. Prettyman claimed a time by just hundredths of a second faster than Gunlikson, with each registering officially in at 6.97.
Also running Friday in the Albuquerque Convention Center were Delaney Smith and Maddie Brockel. Smith took 17th in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.93 and Brockel placed 39th in the 60 clocking in at 7.85. The Bobcat men had a 4x400 relay that finished 10th in the event with a season-best time of 3:18.35. Representing the 'Cats in the race were Drake Schneider, Jared Schwend, Derrick Olsen and Gunlikson.
Sophomore Twila Reovan was MSU's lone jumper in the meet. She tied her personal-best mark in the triple jump Friday behind a leap of 37 feet, 11.25 inches (11.56m) and finished 28th.
Alec Nehring, Josh Mertz and Leah Klein represented MSU's throws group. Nehring finished 10th in the men's shot put with a toss of 55-11.25 (17.05m), while Mertz placed 19th with a mark of 51-07.00 (15.72m). Klein took 15th in the women's shot put with her top throw of 45-07.00 (13.89m).
The Bobcats had six athletes participate in the Husky Classic Friday in Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility.
Sophomore Lucy Corbett took 2nd overall in the women's high jump for MSU's top finish Friday. Her clearance of 5-08.75 (1.75m) was a season-best and is the second-best jump of her college career.
MSU's distance runners had strong showings at the Husky Classic.
Gillian Maness, Ben Perrin, Collin Buck, Duncan Hamilton and Cooper West all recorded lifetime bests. Maness took 33rd in the 3,000 with her time of 9:52.60. Perrin and Hamilton each ran in the men's 3,000, with Perrin clocking a time of 8:14.63 for 31st overall and Hamilton placed 41st by crossing in at 8:18.70. Buck and West each ran in the men's 5,000. Buck took 37th in a time of 14:26.38 and West finished 42nd clocking in at 14:36.15.
The Bobcat track and field program returns to action on Saturday. MSU has its first competitors appear in the Husky Classic at 11:35 a.m. local time.
