The three track and field programs will compete in a dual-scoring format meet in Worthington Arena
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State track and field program holds its second home meet of the 2019-20 indoor season on Friday, Jan. 24, when the Bobcats host the MSU Dual Meet Invitational. Montana State welcomes Idaho State and Montana into Worthington Arena for the event.
The three programs will be competing in a dual-scoring format meet with the opening events starting at 4 p.m.
"We've got two strong teams coming in here in Idaho State and Montana," said Lyle Weese, Montana State's director of track and field. "We're excited for the first time to really have all the event groups going pretty much full bore and seeing where we stack up against some strong teams in the conference."
MSU began the season by holding the Bobcat Preview in Bozeman on Dec. 6. The Bobcats' next team appearance came a weekend ago with the squad traveling to Pocatello for Idaho State's Stacy Dragila Invitational. It was MSU's lone opportunity to compete at the site of the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships.
"It was great to get down there to Pocatello and get a chance to compete on their track and their field event venues," Weese said. "Their track is a little different than ours. It's a 200-meter banked track and it has a plywood or wood surface. Getting all of our athletes, especially the sprint and hurdle athletes, use to competing on that surface was really key."
Friday's meet will feature a majority of Montana State's student-athletes that are participating during the indoor season. MSU was picked to take second and third in the Big Sky Conference Men's and Women's Preseason Coaches' Polls, respectively. Idaho State was selected to take seventh and eighth in the same polls, while Montana was picked to take sixth on the women's side and eighth on the men's.
While the Bobcats still have four weekends of competition remaining prior to the conference championships, several MSU competitors rank among the top 10 on Big Sky performance list in at least one event.
MSU's men's squad is led by 17 individuals that rank on the performance list. Wyatt Thompson-Siporen is ranked in two events, including the third-highest mark in the pole vault. Noah Martin has the top effort in the high jump this season, while Alec Nehring is second currently in the shot put.
The Bobcat women's team has nine ranked among the top 10 in an event in the Big Sky. Leah Klein and McKenna Ramsay have top-four marks in two events. Morgan Evans is the highest ranked Bobcat currently with her second-fastest time in the 60 hurdles among Big Sky athletes.
The MSU Dual Meet Invitational begins with field events at 4 p.m. Running events in Worthington Arena start at 5 p.m. Fans can attend the meet for free in person while it also will be streamed on Pluto TV and WatchBigSky.com. Live results are available at msubobcats.com/trackresults.
