BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State head coach golf coach Brittany Basye announced on Wednesday, May 1, that Bozeman High School's Annika Danenhauer has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Bobcats ahead of the 2019-20 season.
"I think it's good to have another local kid on the team," Basye said. "Annika is a hard worker, she's a great student and she wants to succeed, and I think that adds to what our team is all about. I think she can do really well for us."
Danenhauer was a part of three state championship teams for the Hawks and was an impact performer each season. She earned runner-up finishes at the AA State Championship two straight years before a breakout senior campaign.
Danenhauer was consistent during the entire 2018 fall slate for Bozeman High. She finished no lower than fifth at any tournament earning two runner-up showings and three consecutive individual medalist showings ahead of the state championship meet.
She capitalized as a senior to claim a state championship. She carded a 154 over two rounds to win the MHSA AA title at Butte Country Club by a stroke. Danenhauer helped pace the Hawks to a total of 647 strokes, winning the team title by 42 strokes. She's earned three All-State selections and served as a team captain as a senior. She also was tabbed with Bozeman's Leadership and MVP awards. Danenhauer has been selected as the Bozeman Daily Chronicle's Female Golfer of the Year twice. She's been active academically for the school, serving as a member of the National Honor Society and Human Rights Club. She also participated during her prep career in hockey and soccer.
The local signee has had success competing individually in golf. Last summer, Danenhauer fired a three-round score of 228 to take second at the MSGA Amateur Championship. She fired an 18-hole best score of 1-under-par 71 that led to a strong finish. Her career-best round is a 69 recorded at Bridger Creek golf course.
Danenhauer has earned Wheat Montana Junior Tour Champion accoloades, won three straight Bridger Creek Golf Course Club Championships and two straight Riverside Country Club Championships. She served as a member of Team Montana in the Montana-Alberta Cup
Danenhauer, who plans to study film studies at Montana State, will be joining an experienced group. The Bobcats are expected to return four seniors and four sophomores to the program next season.
"We have everybody coming back except for Clare (Dittemore)," Basye said. "The ability to make the lineup is a possibility, it's not going to be easy because of who we have coming back. Assuming everybody works hard over the summer, Annika included, we'll have some good competition throughout the team. She'll be given all the tools and all of the access to help available. We hope she runs with it and will be able to compete for a spot."
The Bobcats recently completed their 2018-19 season with a sixth-place finish at the Big Sky Championship.
