FRESNO, Calif. – Junior Delaney Elliott continued her recent strong play and led the Bobcat golf team in the third round Tuesday as the Fresno State Classic came to a close at Copper River Country Club.
Elliott fired a 1-under-par 71 in the final round of play, her third under-par score in her previous six sets of 18 holes, to finish at 8-over for the tournament. She recorded three birdies on the back nine and completed the meet with 224 strokes. She finished in a tie for 29th in the individual standings.
Junior Kelly Hooper and freshman Sofia Rodriguez Todd were consistent to end the tournament for MSU. Hooper recorded a 4-over 76 and her 11-over 227 placed her in a tie for 37th. Rodriguez Todd fired consecutive rounds of 75, 76 and 77 to finish with a three-day total of 228. She ended the meet third in the Bobcat lineup by tying for 42nd overall.
Junior Coral Schulz and freshman Lucia Prieto Romano rounded out the MSU lineup. Schulz carded a final-round 82 and finished in 64th place with 235 strokes. Prieto Romano fired an 84 Tuesday and finished 74th at 240.
"Not the team round we wanted to finish on with having to take a 82," Montana state head coach Brittany Basye said. "It's nice to have Delaney, Kelly and Sofia playing consistent and gaining some confidence each round. I'm always happy to see the under par rounds and today that was Delaney."
Montana State finished 12th in the team standings with a 910 total after scoring a 306 in the third round. The Bobcats' 54-hole tournament score tied the program's sixth best mark in program history. UC Davis won the team title with a three-day score of 856. The Aggies' Christine Danielsson claimed individual medalist honors by finishing at 7-under-par 209.
"We have a couple days off and then will be back outside in Arizona on Saturday for Wyoming's tournament," Basye said. "We still need to tighten up the swings and get more confidence from the 100 and in range."
The Montana State golf team travels to Maricopa, Ariz., next for the Cowgirl Classic. The Bobcats tee off at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on Monday, April 8, to begin their final regular season tournament ahead of the Big Sky Conference Championship.
