Montana State hosts youthful Vandals at 2 pm in Worthington Arena
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State caps a wild week of basketball on Saturday, when the Bobcats host Idaho at 2 pm in Worthington Arena.
Saturday's matinee marks MSU's fourth game in eight days, a stretch which has featured a loss to league-leading Montana and wins over two of the teams – Northern Colorado and Eastern Washington – directly ahead of the Cats in the Big Sky standings. The Bobcats enter Saturday's slate of league games with a 7-5 mark (10-12 overall), good for fourth place. Montana (9-2), Northern Colorado (9-3) and Weber State (8-4) top the standings.
Montana State welcomes a young Vandals squad to Bozeman Saturday. The Cats earned a hard-fought 77-67 win at Idaho on January 10 which capped a three-game win streak. That is the milestone MSU hopes to reach with a win on Saturday.
The Vandals (4-18 overall, 1-10 in Big Sky play) field an active roster entirely composed of underclassmen. Junior Trevon Allen leads the way with 14.1 points a game, while freshman Cameron Tyson chips in 13.3 points. Another brilliant freshman, Jared Rodriguez, averages 9.9 points and 6.4 boards a game.
Montana State's veteran trio of Tyler Hall (20.0 points a game, 4.3 rebounds), Harald Frey (15.4 points, 3.26-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio) and Keljin Blevins (team-best 5.8 boards a game) paces the Cats. Beyond leading scorers Hall and Frey, MSU has received scoring contributions from a range of contributors. Devin Kirby scored a career-high 19 points in Thursday's win, while Blevins supported Hall's supreme effort on Monday with 13 points and Sam Neumann added nine.
After Saturday's contest, the Bobcats take to the road for two weeks. MSU plays at Idaho State on Thursday, Weber State on Saturday, and Montana on February 23. The team's last home games – Senior Weekend for Tyler Hall, Sam Neumann, Keljin Blevins and Usman Haruna – is March 2 and 4.
