GAME #25: Bobcats Face Weber State in Big Sky Showdown on Saturday
2/15/2019 6:49:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MSU, Wildcats square off with third place on the line
Montana State finds itself in a crucial Big Sky battle Saturday night, when the Bobcats meet Weber State in Ogden with sole possession of third place in the conference standings on the line.
The Bobcats worked themselves into that position Thursday night, beating Idaho State 84-76 in Pocatello while Montana was beating the Wildcats in Ogden. MSU and Weber each stand 9-5 in the conference standings, chasing Montana (11-2) and Northern Colorado (11-3).
Montana State knocked down 13 three-pointers in the win over the Bengals, rallying from a halftime deficit to raise the team's record to 4-2 in Big Sky road games this season and 4-1 in the month of February. The team's four February wins are Montana State's most since 2013-14, and no Bobcat team has won more than five games in the second month since the 1995-96 team won six on the way to a Big Sky title.
The familiar trio of Tyler Hall (17 points and a team-high five assists), Harald Frey (team-high 21 points, six rebounds, three assists) and Keljin Blevins (20 points, six boards) paced the Bobcats. Sharpshooter Ladan Ricketts came up big in the game's biggest moments, notching 18 points and knocking down four free throws in the game's final minutes to seal the win.
The Bobcats lost key statistical markers Thursday – MSU won for the second time against 12 losses when out-shot, and the second time against 10 losses when out-rebounded – but won with what head coach Brian Fish called "toughness and just finding a way to win."
Weber State fell behind Montana by 20 points at halftime, but worked their way to within one point in the game's final seconds. A pair of Grizzly free throws and a missed three-pointer sealed WSU's fate. The Wildcats have lost two of three, but Jerrick Harding remains one of the most dangerous players in the West. The junior guard averages 22.5 points in league play, with 3.4 rebounds and 22 steals.
Tipoff Saturday is at 7 pm. The game is available on Pluto.tv and WatchBigSky.com.
