RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Montana State golf team completed play at the Battle at the Rock by finishing up two strong rounds on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Oak Quarry Golf Club.
The Bobcats completed second round play with a team score of 307 strokes and ended the third round with a 310. MSU wrapped up the tournament in 13th place with a two-day score of 936.
Montana State was led by juniors Delaney Elliott and Kelly Hooper.
Elliott had a solid showing Tuesday by completing back-to-back rounds of 74 and 75. Hooper shot a 79 and 76 and the two MSU golfers both concluded their appearances by shooting a 14-over-par 230 and each tied for 45th overall.
Coral Schulz, Clare Dittemore and Sofia Rodriguez Todd rounded out MSU's lineup. Schulz finished in a tie for 70th after finishing with a total of 239. Dittemore fired a three-round 244 and tied for 78th while Rodriguez Todd placed 84th by shooting a 248. Schulz fired her best round of 73 during second round play.
Lucia Prieto Romano, competing as an individual, tied for 62nd by firing a 235. She carded an 18-hole best 74 during second round action.
"Kelly and Delaney were consistent and that's a good sign for what's to come," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "I think we know what we need to keep working on and keep working hard. Lucia and Coral each had at least one good round so they have something to build off of.
"It was nice to get outside and we're looking forward to Grand Canyon in a couple of weeks."
Grand Canyon won the Battle at the Rock team title by recording 881 strokes over three rounds. Cal Poly's Elizabeth Scholtes and USC's Alyaa Abdulghany tied for first individually by shooting a 212 apiece.
Montana State travels to Phoenix, Ariz., for its second tournament of the spring. The Bobcats are scheduled to participate in the Grand Canyon Invitational at the GCU Golf Course from Feb. 23-24.
