The Montana State men’s basketball team hosts its lone exhibition in preparation for the 2019-20 season on Wednesda
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State men's basketball team hosts its lone exhibition in preparation for the 2019-20 season on Wednesday, Oct. 30, when the Bobcats welcome Yellowstone Christian to Worthington Arena with tip off set for 7 p.m.
Led by first-year head coach Danny Sprinkle, MSU returns five players that saw the court for the Bobcats a season ago. Three of those players saw significant playing time during the 2018-19 slate, with Harald Frey standing out in the group. The Bobcat senior guard was a second team all-Big Sky honoree and was selected to the preseason all-conference team.
Nine new faces are featured on the Bobcats' roster with five being underclassmen. Adjustments will begin to take shape as MSU gets its first game action under the lights of Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
"We're going to play a bunch of different players and lineups," Sprinkle said. "Nobody has really separated themselves other than Harald at their position. That's something we probably won't know until conference. You've got to play a lot of guys. Some guys are gamers, they've all been pretty solid in practice, but then they have their moments when they get tired and we start making mistakes on the little things. Those will be the things that we'll need to clean up."
Yellowstone Christian is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association and is based out of Billings. The Centurions are currently 0-2 on the season with losses to Multnomah (Portland, Ore.) and Lewis and Clark State (Lewiston, Idaho). Yellowstone Christian was 8-10 overall last season.
"I want to see our guys' competitiveness," Sprinkle said of MSU's exhibition contest. "I want to see them play consistently hard on the defensive end. Whatever their assignment is defensively, execute that, rebound and get the ball up the floor. Even if we don't make shots, I want to see their effort defensively and to see them execute offensively. I want them to share the ball, make the extra pass and be unselfish. I want to see us play team basketball, that's the main thing at this time of year that we've got to have."
Wednesday's matchup will be on the air locally on 103.5 FM and on the TuneIn app. Tickets are on sale for the 2019-20 season at msubobcats.com/tickets, by phone at 406-994-CATS or in person at the Bobcat Ticket Office at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
The Bobcats will open the season officially on Tuesday, Nov. 5, when they travel to Logan, Utah, to face No. 17/19 Utah State. MSU returns to Bozeman for its second game of the season and home opener on Nov. 9 when the Bobcats host Rocky Mountain.
