Montana State Golf Fills in 2018-19 Slate With 10 Tournaments

Bobcat golf is set to participate in 10 tournaments over the course of the 2018-19 season as head coach Brittany Basye announced the team’s upcoming schedule on Thursday
Montana State women's golf is set to participate in 10 tournaments over the course of the 2018-19 season as head coach Brittany Basye announced the team's upcoming schedule on Thursday, July 19.
The Bobcats open their 2018-19 season by co-hosting the Battle at Old Works in Anaconda, Mont., from Sept. 10-11. MSU, hosting alongside Montana, begins its season at Old Works Golf Club with a variety of Division I teams making the trip to the Treasure State for a second consecutive year. MSU returns five from its roster from a year ago that played in the Battle at Old Works. Three freshmen are set to make their Bobcat debuts in Anaconda.
"Old Works is a phenomenal golf course," Basye said. "Most of the teams are returning from last year's tournament, but we've also added a few new teams to the field. To be able to play in our home state out of the gate is exciting. We have three freshmen coming in, so it'll be good to be close to home for our first tournament."
Montana State will play in four tournaments during the fall portion of its schedule.
The Bobcats make their first trip out of state on Sept. 17 when they play in their second tournament of the season at Coeur d'Alene Resort. MSU travels to Aurora, Ore., for the Rose City Collegiate on Oct. 1 and closes 2018 with a trip to Tacoma, Wash., for the Pat Lessor Harbottle Invitational which starts on Oct. 15.
"What I'm looking for during the fall schedule is who's going to be in the lineup," Basye said. "With eight players that can play, we're going to be looking for our top 4-5 for the spring. We won't be taking everybody by then, so we're looking to see who is going to earn spots in the lineup.
"Consistency is the key. When the spring rolls around, it's going to be a matter of who is going to be able to practice inside and take their game outside."
Basye's squad returns to action on Feb. 11 when the Bobcats compete in the Battle at the Rock in Riverside, Calif. MSU is slated to appear in the Grand Canyon Invitational (Feb. 23-24), Red Rocks Invitational (March 23-24), Fresno State Classic (April 1-2) and Wyoming Cowgirl Classic (April 7-9) during the regular season.
"The biggest thing right now is that the girls have been working hard this summer to prepare for the upcoming season," Basye said. "I think we have to figure out who our top five are by the time we get to the conference meet. The five coming back knew at the end of last semester what their expectations coming into this year would be. We've got to find out what each player needs to focus on as the spring gets closer and as we're getting ready for the Big Sky Championship. "
The Big Sky Conference Championships will be played for the fourth straight year at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. All 12 Big Sky golf teams tee off at the conference meet on April 19 with the final round of play taking place on April 21.
