Hooper, Elliott Pace Bobcats Through First Round of PSU/EWU Invite

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Montana State sophomores Kelly Hooper and Delaney Elliott sit among the leaders to pace the Bobcats following the first day of the Portland State/Eastern Washington Invitational at the Ocotillo Golf Club on Tuesday, March 27.
Hooper is alone in fourth place after firing a 1-over-par 73 to begin the tournament on Tuesday. The Spokane, Wash., native shot 1-under on par 3s and racked up four birdies on the day which is tied for the most among the individuals in the field. She currently is alone in fourth place in the individual standings.
Elliott opened play for MSU with a strong first round. She shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for fifth overall with UMKC's Chandler Gallagher and UC Riverside's Julia Sander.
Rounding out MSU's lineup are Jaylee Tait, Lilly Navarre and Coral Schulz. Tait is tied for 23rd after shooting an 8-over 80. Navarre is 36th after firing an 86 and Schulz is in 39th after a first-round 91. Clare Dittemore, competing as an individual, is in 35th after carding an 84.
Montana State is fifth in the team standings with a 313, one stroke ahead of Montana and four strokes behind Eastern Washington. Portland State is atop the leaderboard with a team score of 287.
The Bobcats begin second round play at the PSU/EWU Invitational at 12 p.m. MDT on Wednesday. Live results will be available at golfstateresults.com.
