Bobcats face Saints team featuring Quadre Lollis, Jr.
BOZEMAN, Montana – Brian Fish doesn't know how the outside world is taking his Montana State basketball team's 0-2 start to the 2018-19 season, but he knows how things are going inside the program.
"We're doing fine," Fish says, "because I like how the guys are competing. I like how hard they're working. The things we're not doing well enough, they're all correctible because this team wants to get better."
The next chance to get better is Sunday night, when the Bobcats welcome Presentation College (4-4) from Aberdeen, South Dakota, into the Fieldhouse. Bobcat fans will see a familiar name when perusing the visiting team's roster.
"They have Quadre Lollis Jr., the son of Quadre Lollis, who went into the (Bobcat) Hall of Fame in the last couple of years," Fish said. "That's a name our fans will recognize and it will be fun for them to watch him play. But I want our guys to get some shots to fall, get some confidence."
Shots falling has been Montana State's primary problem early in the season. The Bobcats shoot 31.5% from the floor in the first two games, 24.5% from three-point range, after Indiana held MSU to 25.5% shooting from the floor, 11.5% from the arc, in what Fish called "a pretty intimidating environment" at Assembly Hall. Six Bobcats are new to the program this season, and two more are playing drastically elevated roles this season.
Fish is looking for his veterans to get the Cats rolling. "This team is going to be fine," he said. "Tyler Hall and Harald Frey and Keljin Blevins, players like that are proven commodities. We just need them to start playing well, and things will fall into place."
After Montana State's Sunday night home game the Bobcats head onto the road for a stretch of games starting Wednesday at Colorado State. MSU also visits UC Santa Barbara on Saturday before returning home, then sandwiches Thanksgiving with games at Arkansas on November 21 and at Omaha on November 24.
