BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State sophomores Noah Martin and Caleb Neth closed out the MSU-UM Multis Meet Invitational by finishing in first and second place, respectively, in the men's heptathlon Tuesday at Worthington Arena.
Martin finished atop the leaderboard by registering 4,739 points a day after sitting in third place following four events.
The Spokane, Wash., native finished first among heptathletes in the pole vault with a mark of 14-01.25 (4.30m). He set a personal-best time in the 60-meter hurdles by crossing the line in 9.56 seconds and earned a time of 3:10.15 in the 1,000.
"I think I did well in some of the events I'm more comfortable in," Martin said. "Like the distance events I need a little more work in, but I think just doing some more events across the board will help and there's room for improvement."
Neth made the biggest jump over the final three events by moving up from sixth to a runner-up showing. He finished second among competitors in both the 60 hurdles (9.18) and the 1,000 (2:49.44), with his time in the 1,000 setting a lifetime-best mark.
He wrapped up the day with 4,600 points by clearing 12-09.50 (3.90m) in the pole vault.
The Montana State men's and women's track and field teams make their 2018 debut in Worthington Arena on Friday, Jan. 12. The Bobcats host the MSU Invitational with field events starting at 3:30 p.m. and track events beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the Bobcat Ticket Office or by visiting msubobcats.com/tickets.
