GAME #20: Bobcats Host League-Leading Grizzlies Saturday Night

MSU faces deep, balanced Montana squad
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State hosts the Big Sky Conference's early leader Saturday when Montana visits Worthington Arena.
The Grizzlies ride a six-game win streak, all in conference contests, to Bozeman this weekend. Montana's average margin of victory in Big Sky play is +17.0 points, and individual success and statistics point to UM's team success. Guards Ahmaad Rorie (20.2 points per Big Sky game) and Michael Oguine (17.8) add the scoring punch from the perimeter, while Jamar Akoh (18.5) provides plenty of paint points.
Montana (13-5 overall, 6-0 Big Sky) features players that can hurt opponents in many ways offensively. The Grizzlies score just under two-thirds of their points inside the three-point arc and divvy up the rest fairly evenly between the free throw line and the three-point circle. Rorie, a guard who shoots 34% on his team-high 99 treys, and forward Bobby Moorehead, who shoots 35% from deep, lead the Grizzlies from three-point range.
Reviving a phrase that has applied to Montana basketball for decades, the Grizzlies pound opponents on the boards. UM out-rebounds is opponents by more than five a game in all contests, and more than seven a game in Big Sky tilts. Jamar Akoh leads the way with 7.1 rebounds a game.
The Bobcats (11-8, 4-2) rely on what senior forward Zach Green calls "pack rebounding." Junior forward Keljin Blevins leads the team with 5.8 rebounds a game, but three others grab as many as 4.5. The net result is a Bobcat squad that grabs a board-and-a-half more than its opponent both overall and in conference action.
Montana State's junior forward Tyler Hall has led the Cats offensively since arriving on campus, and he has saved memorable performances for the Cat-Griz contest. Hall averages 21.5 points in four games against Montana, who counters with Oguine (19.5 ppg in four games against MSU) and Rorie (23.5 ppg in a pair of Cat-Griz encounters).
Tipoff is 7 pm Saturday, and tickets are selling fast with a sellout expected. Those with tickets to Saturday's game can purchase a single ducat to one of next weekend's games against either Northern Arizona or Southern Utah.
