MSU Golf’s Tait Advances to CWGA Match Play Championship Semifinals

Jaylee Tait earned two victories and completed a solid appearance at the Colorado Women’s Golf Association Match Play Championship Wednesday, July 19
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Jaylee Tait completed a solid appearance at the Colorado Women's Golf Association Match Play Championship Wednesday, July 19, as the Montana State rising senior earned two victories before falling in the semifinals at Buffalo Run Golf Course.
Tait, along with rising sophomore Delaney Elliott, competed in the Championship Flight beginning with stroke play on Monday. Tait and Elliott both shot 1-over-par 73 to sit in a tie for 5th out of 16 to set up the Match Play bracket.
Tait began the Round of 16 by taking down Caitlyn Skavdahl, 3 and 2, which included a four-hole advantage through 10.
Elliott faced Maddie Kern in her Round of 16 Match Play contest. The Superior, Colo., native dropped the first three holes, but eventually came back to make it all square through 13 holes. Elliott birdied the 16th hole to go 1 up, but Kern won holes 17 and 18 to end Elliott's Match Play appearance.
MSU's scoring leader a season ago, Tait continued her success by winning a 4 and 3 quarterfinal match over Megan Knadler. The two were all square through six holes, then the Littleton native went on a roll and wrapped up the match by taking four of the next nine holes.
Tait moved into the semifinals Wednesday and faced a familiar Bobcat foe in Kern.
The two went back-and-forth during the match and eventually completed the entire 18-hole round. Kern would go 1 up on three occasions on the front nine, but the match was all square going into the back nine. Tait went 1 up on the 10th hole, but again went back to all square from holes 11-14.
Kern eventually birdied the 15th and the two each shot 1-under during the remaining three holes to wrap up the Match Play semifinal. Tait completed her 18-hole round with a 1-under 71 Wednesday.
The Bobcats begin their 2017-18 season with the Battle at Old Works in Anaconda, Mont., with play starting on Sept. 11.
