Montana State's outdoor track and field facility will have a new look when the 2018 season starts up in Bozeman
Two athletic facilities on the Montana State University campus, adjacent to one another, will have new looks heading into the 2017-18 academic year. Work at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex begins Monday as the outdoor track facility will be receiving updates to its surface over the summer for the first time since 2002.
Beynon Sports Surfaces, Inc. will furnish and install a BSS 1000 All-Weather Track Surface to all areas of the track oval and events. The new surface will feature a blue surface color and gold relay exchange marks.
"This track went in in 2002 and has 15 years of competing, running, jumping and throwing on it," Montana State track and field head coach Dale Kennedy said. "We're ready to get this done and we're ready for a new surface. It's time.
"We're excited about the blue surface and gold exchange zones that will be a piece of artwork for us, as it were, and really beautiful track facilities do have an aesthetic touch to them. I think this is going to be a great experience for people when they see it for the first time."
The facility will also see upgrades to the long jump/triple jump pits. A Retro-Fit Long Jump Pit Sand Catcher System will be installed to the three sides of the two existing pits.
"It's exciting to have a state-of-the-art high performance facility on our campus that our athletes get to use every day," Montana State Senior Associate Director Dan Davies said. "We're going to host some great meets and we're anxious to showcase the updated facility because it will be one of the top ones in the Northwest."
Updates to the Bobcat Track and Field Complex were approved by the Board of Regents and the Governor of Montana. The facility improvements were completely funded by an anonymous donor and through the Bobcat Track and Field Association.
"We're really grateful for the Bobcat Track and Field Association and our donorship," Kennedy said. "The whole project is being funded through the Association. It's been a major support group for track and field here at Montana State. We're grateful and blessed to have that kind of support for our student-athletes in our program.
"We've been fortunate to have been able to compete on a great surface and be able to host the amount of meets we have indoors. Now, we'll have two of the best facilities all year round to compete in within the Big Sky Conference and we couldn't be more pleased about the future of Bobcat track and field."
