Montana State’s Alex Lewis Earns Academic All-District Accolades

Alex Lewis was recognized for his combined performances athletically and in the classroom Thursday, May 25, by being selected to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII Men’s Track/Cross Country Team
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Montana State's Alex Lewis was recognized for his combined performances athletically and in the classroom Thursday, May 25, by being selected to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII Men's Track/Cross Country Team.
A member of the Montana State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Lewis has been successful academically and athletically as a Bobcat. Lewis holds a 4.00 GPA while majoring in business, with concentrations in accounting and finance.
Lewis, a junior in eligibility during the indoor season and sophomore during the outdoor season, makes his debut at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds Thursday after recording the second-best long jump in program history (24-05.50) during the outdoor season. He recently finished ninth in the triple jump and 12th in the long jump at the Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He previously took seventh at the Big Sky Indoor meet in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump.
A Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week honoree this spring, Lewis has had a solid outdoor campaign by racking up seven runner-up finishes and two long jump victories in the process. The Moscow, Idaho, native had three event victories during the indoor season and seven other top-three finishes.
He was previously named to the Big Sky Academic All-Conference Team for the 2017 indoor campaign.
Lewis moves on to a national ballot for the nation's top academic honor for collegiate athletes. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third- team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
