SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Jessica Chrisp and freshman Caleb Neth led the Montana State women's and men's teams, respectively, as the multi-events portion of the 2017 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships was completed Thursday, May 11, at Hornet Stadium.
Chrisp gathered five points towards the MSU team total by earning her career-best finish of fourth in the women's heptathlon. The senior racked up 5,107 points over two days which was a lifetime best and moved her up to fifth all-time in program history in the event.
MSU's lone entrant in the heptathlon fell just shy of a podium appearance. Chrisp's total was just 56 points short of runner-up Kassandra Corrigan of Sacramento State and just 37 behind Montana's Nicole Stroot for bronze.
Chrisp put together a solid day behind two personal bests and a season best. She opened her day by taking fifth in the long jump with a leap of 18-03.75 (5.58m). Her first career mark came in the javelin throw as she completed a toss of 101-00 (30.79m) for fourth place. Her day came to an end as she crossed the line in the 800-meter run in a collegiate-best time of 2 minutes, 20.80 seconds for fourth overall in the event.
Neth finished fifth in the decathlon with 6,586 points to lead the Bobcat men. The Manhattan, Mont., native earned four top-10 finishes during the second day of the meet. He completed a lifetime best in the discus throw with a mark of 117-05 (35.80m) to place sixth and finished in the same slot in the javelin (150-10).
Sophomore Dalen Hargett took seventh overall to help push MSU's team total to six points. Hargett finished first among decathletes in the discus throw with his toss of 132-08 (40.43m). He also moved up the individual standings during the day by recording personals bests and top-10 showings in the 110 hurdles (15.78) and the javelin (158-02).
Senior Mason Storm had the second fastest time in the 110 hurdles and was third overall in the discus (126-09), but after a 12th-place finish and 16th-place finish in the pole vault and javelin – respectively – he did not finish the 1,500. He wound up 16th with 5,855 points.
