Several Notables Stand Out for Bobcat Track and Field at Montana Open

Montana State wraps up its final road trip of regular season with solid showings for the men's and women's teams
MISSOULA, Mont. – The Montana State track and field team had several standouts when the Bobcats wrapped up competition at the Montana Open Saturday, April 29, at Dornblaser Field.
On the women's side, Christie Schiel continued her strong outdoor campaign by topping her own school record by crossing the line in 2 minutes, 7.23 seconds in the 800-meter run. She was followed by Kendra Larson, who finished fourth in a time of 2:11.59 to join MSU's all-time top 10 list in the event, and Kimberly Parsell who took fifth in 2:16.49.
Senior Daryan Box was the only other Bobcat to finish atop an event, taking first in the 100 with her time of 12.28.
Shey Hannum, Casey Teska, Jacqueline Verlanic and Hailey Phillips each earned runner-up showings in their respective events.
Hannum set a lifetime best mark (05-03.25) to place second in the high jump. Teska cleared 12-05.50 in the pole vault, Verlanic finished with a mark of 189-04 in the hammer throw and Phillips earned a time of 1:04.13 in the 400 hurdles to also earn second place.
The MSU women's team's 4x400 relay of Phillips, McKenna Ramsay, Box and Amanda Jaynes finished third in 3:55.13. Callen Crawford (179-01) also had a third-place finish in the hammer throw.
Jessica Chrisp finished with dual fourth-place finishes in the 100 hurdles and long jump. Courtney Stromme (26.16) placed fourth in the 200 while Sierra Tucker (4:53.12) earned a lifetime best to take fourth in the 1,500.
Adam Wollant, Kyle Douglass, Alex Lewis and Calvin Root all earned first-place finishes to highlight the Montana State men's team's day.
Wollant earned his best time as a Bobcat in the 10,000 by crossing the line in 31:10.01, which converted due to altitude, puts him currently in the top five in the Big Sky Conference. Lewis finished first in the long jump (22-07.75) and second in the triple jump (44-05.25). Douglass finished first in the shot put with his toss of 56-05.75 (17.21m) and Root jumped to ninth in program history in the hammer throw with his mark of 199-08 (60.87m).
The men's 4x400 relay of Jadin Casey, Samuel Bloom, Christopher Lange and Tyler McQueen also finished ahead of its competitors with a time of 3:15.70.
Several other notables stood out for the 'Cats on the men's side.
Diego Leon and Cameron Carroll finished second and third, respectively, with both setting lifetime bests of 3:52.12 and 3:54.63 in the 1,500.
Mitch Horning earned a time of 10.95 in the 100, Anthony Schmalz set a lifetime best 9:30.83 in the 3,000 steeplechase and Caleb Neth leaped 22-06.25 in the long jump to complete second-place showings.
Jared Schwend and Aidan Pedersen each earned third-place finishes in their respective events. John Purlee and Zach Kughn each finished in fourth in an event while Branygen Andersen and Knox Semenza placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault.
Montana State concludes its 2017 outdoor regular season by hosting the Tom Gage Classic in Bozeman Friday, May 5, at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex.
