MSU remains in contention for Big Sky Tournament
Montana State earned a crucial Big Sky men's tennis win on Saturday, beating Eastern Washington 4-3 in Cheney.
Bobcat freshman Kasper Parlklo was in the middle of the action all day. He teamed with junior Dylan Harvala to win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point for MSU. Then Parlklo beat Wacil Bendjelti 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 on the fifth singles line to clinch the match for the Bobcats.
"We played well in doubles again," said MSU coach Jared Burnham, "and we played well enough in singles. Kasper played well, and Alex (Flink, at No. 4) and Rok (Sitar, at No. 2) both won in straight sets. I thought they competed today."
The win keeps the Bobcats alive in the scramble for one of the six spots in the Big Sky Tournament. MSU is 5-4 in Big Sky play. After losing four straight, the Eagles finish league play 6-5. Weber State, who the Bobcats host Saturday, is 4-4 with tilts at Idaho State and Montana remaining. UM visits Bozeman Friday at 2 pm with a 6-3 league mark. The Bobcats likely need two wins to maintain hopes for a tourney berth.
