Snyder’s School Record, Bobcat Throws Highlight MSU Track & Field’s Day in Cali

Alyssa Snyder crushes the school record in the 10,000 meter run while several MSU throwers have big days at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Montana State sophomore Alyssa Snyder shattered the women's 10,000-meter run school record during the first heat of the Elite Invitational at the Mt. SAC Relays. Her performance was one of MSU's top feats during the Bobcat track and field program's Thursday in California.
Snyder crossed the line in a time of 33 minutes, 45.87 seconds for second in her heat in Torrance at El Camino College. That mark topped the former record holder Ariana Lee's 2003 time of 34:27.25 by more than 40 seconds. The time catapulted her to 16th on the NCAA performance list in the event. Her new lifetime best is almost 2 ½ minutes faster than her previous personal best.
Also competing for the Bobcats at the Mt. SAC Relays was sophomore Ty Mogan. He participated in the men's 10,000 'A' Division race and finished 22nd with a personal-best time of 30:31.79, just three seconds shy of placing within the MSU all-time top-10 list.
A majority of the Montana State track squad that appeared Thursday were part of the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on the campus of Long Beach State.
Juniors Calvin Root and Kyle Douglass both earned fourth-place finishes in a respective event. Root took fourth in the men's hammer throw with a lifetime-best mark of 195-06 (59.58m), good for a tie for 10th in program history. Douglass completed the shot put with a throw of 56-10 (17.32m) for fourth, then improved his second-best mark on the MSU all-time list in the discus while finishing sixth with a throw of 184-04 (56.18m).
Freshman Alec Nehring competed in all three throwing events and earned a lifetime best in the hammer throw (156-07).
Junior Alex Lewis placed eighth overall in the long jump with his leap of 22-07 (6.88m). Freshman Noah Martin also competed in the Intercollegiate in the high jump, reaching a height of 06-05.50.
On the women's side, Casey Teska tied for eighth place in the second flight of the pole vault by clearing 11-10 (3.61m). Callen Crawford led the throwers with her mark of 176-08 (53.84m) in the hammer which put her in 13th place.
The Bobcat multi-event athletes wrapped up action at the California Invitational on the campus of Azusa Pacific at Cougar Stadium Thursday.
Senior Jessica Chrisp finished 15th out of 60 participants with another solid day in the women's heptathlon. Chrisp used a ninth-place finish in the long jump (18-01.85) and a personal-best throw of 100-10 (30.34m) in the javelin to finish the meet with 4,942 points. That score completed a lifetime best appearance in the heptathlon for Chrisp and moved her up a spot to eighth on the MSU all-time top 10 list.
Senior Mason Storm and sophomore Dalen Hargett finished the men's decathlon of the 'B' Division in eighth and ninth place, respectively.
Hargett recorded three lifetime bests in the decathlon Thursday. He earned a sixth-place finish in the 1,500 with his time of 4:44.74, tied for eighth in the 110 hurdles (16.21) and placed ninth in the pole vault (12-09.50). Hargett also completed a strong day by taking second in the discus with his throw of 127-03 (38.78m) to give him 6,202 points.
Storm wrapped up his appearance by earning his best finish of the day in the 110 hurdles, crossing the line in the event with a time of 15.91 to help get him to 6,327 points.
The Montana State track and field teams are scattered across three meets Friday. Several Bobcats will compete at both the Beach Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational, while Casey Teska, Noah Martin and Diego Leon are scheduled to participate in an event apiece at the Mt. SAC Relays.
