Cats Head to Big Sky Tourney as No. 1 Seed

For the second straight season the Montana State women’s basketball team will enter the Big Sky Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will open action Wednesday, March 8 at 1:05 p.m.

NEXT UP: For the second straight season the Montana State women's basketball team will enter the Big Sky Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will open action Wednesday, March 8 at 1:05 p.m. (MST) against the winner of Monday's #8 Weber State/#9 Sacramento State game. Should MSU advance, the Bobcats would play a semifinal game on Friday, March 10 at 1:05 p.m. The Big Sky Conference Women's Championship game will be played Saturday, March 11 at 1:05 p.m.
ON A SERIES NOTE: Montana State is 49-31 all-time against Weber State. The two teams met on Friday night to conclude the regular-season with the Bobcats winning 72-53 in Worthington Arena. It was the 20th straight win for MSU over the Wildcats. MSU's last loss to WSU came on Jan. 7, 2007. Montana State is 31-11 all-time against Sacramento State, which includes a sweep of the Hornets this season. The Bobcats have won four straight in the series. The last time Sacramento State defeated Montana State (78-62) was at the Big Sky Tournament, March 11, 2015.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Bobcats finished its home season with a perfect 13-0 mark. Its current 25-game home winning streak is third longest at the NCAA Division I level, behind UConn 64 and UCLA 27. The 25-game home win streak is a new school-record.
STATE OF THE LEAGUE: The Big Sky is currently ranked 20th out of 32 conferences in the RPI. This week's NCAA Nitty-Gritty team RPI has MSU ranked 88, followed by North Dakota 117, Eastern Washington 120, Idaho 127, Northern Colorado 128, Idaho State 161, Weber State 230, Portland State 247, Sacramento State 283, Southern Utah 298, Northern Arizona 308 and Montana 328.
BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Peyton Ferris earned her third Big Sky Player of the Week honor. Ferris capped an impressive senior season with back-to-back double-doubles to guide Montana State to its second straight Big Sky regular-season title and a No. 1 seed. For the two games, the Twin Bridges, Mont., product averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds per game, while shooting a 72 percent from the field, including 57 percent from beyond the arc. In addition, she averaged 2.5 assists per game. Against Idaho State, Ferris posted 22 points and a career-matching 12 rebounds. She followed that with 22 points and ten boards in the season finale with Weber State. The double-double against WSU was the eighth Ferris' career. She also finished the season with ten games scoring 20 or more points
