NEXT UP: The Montana State women's basketball team will plays its final regular-season game of the season when it hosts Weber State University on Friday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena. This week's Big Sky women's games were moved-up up to Wednesday/Friday from its traditional Thursday/Saturday schedule due to travel consideration for teams playing in the first-round of the Big Sky Conference Tournament on March 6 in Reno, Nevada. On Friday night, the Bobcats will also celebrate its three seniors - Margreet Barhoum, Peyton Ferris and Riley Nordgaard.
ON A SERIES NOTE: Montana State holds the all-time series mark with Weber State 48-31 dating back to the 1977-78 season. The Bobcats are on a current 19-game win streak over the Wildcats. MSU's last loss to WSU came on Jan. 7, 2007 in a 67-66 decision in Ogden. Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford is 19-3 all-time against Weber State. Earlier this season, MSU defeated WSU 83-68 on Dec. 29 in Ogden.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: The Bobcats are assured a top three seed and a first-round bye at the Big Sky tourney. That means MSU will open at the tournament on March 8. However, the Bobcats are also battling with North Dakota for a share of the regular-season title. UND claimed its share with a win at Sacramento State on Wednesday night. MSU must defeat Weber State and have North Dakota lose at Portland State in order to notch its first back-to-back titles since the 2002, 2003 seasons. Weber State is currently eighth and jockeying for the Nos. 7-10 seeds at the tournament.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Bobcats are riding a 24-game home winning streak after its 71-68 victory over Southern Utah on Feb. 11. The streak is fourth longest at the NCAA Division I level, behind UConn 64, UCLA 27 and Bucknell 24. The 24-game home win streak is also a new school-record, surpassing 23 games held by the 2001-02, 2002-03 Bobcat squads.
STATE OF THE LEAGUE: The Big Sky is currently ranked 20th out of 32 conferences in the RPI. This week's NCAA Nitty-Gritty team RPI has MSU ranked 88, followed by North Dakota 117, Eastern Washington 120, Idaho 127, Northern Colorado 128, Idaho State 161, Weber State 230, Portland State 247, Sacramento State 283, Southern Utah 298, Northern Arizona 308 and Montana 328.
