Bobcats Take Eighth to Complete Lady Thunderbird Invitational

Four Bobcats score in the 70's as Montana State wraps up their final tournament of March
ST. GEORGE, UTAH – The Montana State women's golf team finished play at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational by placing eighth with a two-round score of 612 Saturday, March 17, at Sunbrook Golf Course.
MSU followed Friday's 310 with a 302 as a team Saturday. The Bobcats finished eighth strokes shy of Weber State for sixth and four back of Yale for seventh. South Dakota State won the team title with a 564.
Senior Janelle Reali led the 'Cats in the final round of action by carding a 1-over-par 73. She eventually tied for 25th by shooting 9-over 153. Junior Jaylee Tait fired a 74 in the second round to tie for ninth with a 1-over 145. Freshman Kelly Hooper was right behind her with a 76 Saturday to tie for 36th individually with a two-round total of 156.
"Janelle and Kelly came back today and played well," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "Jaylee continues to show her consistent scoring which is very nice."
Freshman Delaney Elliott knocked in her first Hole in One of her career on the 12th hole. She teed off on her third hole of the day – a par 3 from 144 yards out – and found the inside of the cup. Elliott would end up finishing her round with a 79, her second 79 in two days, to finish in 43rd (158).
Coral Schulz also wrapped up play with a 36-hole score of 174.
"We had a better team score today and I'm happy we could put four scores together in the 70's," Basye said. "We really need to work on our short games from 80 yards and in, as well as our putting. Again, we're looking for consistency and to put three team rounds together.
"We need to work hard the next couple weeks and be ready to go for Wyoming's and our tournament (in April). The courses will play a little different being they are desert courses, so we will prepare accordingly."
The Bobcats have two remaining tournaments this spring before heading to the Big Sky Conference Championship in Boulder City, Nev., on April 21. Montana State is scheduled next to head to the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic beginning April 6.
