Montana State (11-13, 6-5) had the hot hand early, opening the game connecting on four consecutive three-pointers, including two triples via freshman Harald Frey. The Bobcats took an eight-point advantage on a pair of Benson Osayande free throw tosses just over four minutes into the contest. MSU held the lead until the 5:23 mark following a tip-in by Montana's (11-13, 6-5) Michael Oguine. The Grizzlies entered intermission with a 30-29 advantage.
The second-half belonged to UM as the Grizzlies shot 71.4 percent from the floor, connecting on 15-of-21 from the field. In addition, Montana went 27-of-31 from the free throw line in the final period, which included 23 consecutive makes.
And, while Montana made the most of its efforts, the Bobcats had a tough time defending as UM scored on 17 straight possessions to break away from 48-all with 11:04 remaining with a 17-7 run. The Bobcats were unable to get the margin to a two possession contest until Frey hit his third 3-pointer with seven-seconds left.
Frey and Tyler Hall each finished with 22 points for MSU, while Quinton Everett 16 and Zach Green 15 also hit double-digits.
UM was led by Ahmaad Rorie and Oguine with 28 and 22 points, respectively.
MSU will travel to Northern Arizona next Thursday night.
