Storm, Bobcats Wrap up First Day of Big Sky Indoor Championships

Mason Storm earned two lifetime bests in the heptathlon while three other Bobcats completed action on day one of the Big Sky meet Thursday
POCATELLO, Idaho – Mason Storm sits in first place in the men's heptathlon to highlight Montana State's opening day at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships inside of Holt Arena on Thursday, Feb. 23.
Storm owns a 58-point lead through the first four events of the heptathlon behind three top-three finishes.
The Great Falls native crossed the line in 7.14 seconds in the 60-meter dash, tying for first in the event. He earned a runner-up finish in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 23-02.75 (7.08m), took third in the shot put with a throw of 40-05.50 (12.33m) and placed fifth in the high jump leaping a lifetime best 06-03.25 (1.91m) for 3,015 points.
Storm currently is ahead of Sacramento State's Donte Robinson, who has 2,957 points, and Montana's Brendan Thurber-Blaser (2,826 points).
MSU freshman Caleb Neth is currently in seventh with 2,724 points. Neth took first among the heptathletes in the long jump behind a personal-best leap of 23-06 (7.16m), which ranks him ninth all-time in program history in the event. He also finished seventh overall in the 60 dash (7.28).
Redshirt freshman Dalen Hargett also competed in the first four events of the heptathlon and has a total of 2,458 points.
The women's pentathlon wrapped up Thursday with MSU senior Jessica Chrisp finishing in fifth place behind 3,592 points.
Chrisp earned four top-seven finishes during the pentathlon to help accumulate four points for the Bobcat women's squad. She finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump with a mark of 05-03.25 (1.61m) and placed fifth in the 800 (2:25.48).
The Bobcats' three representatives in the heptathlon conclude their final events beginning with the 60 hurdles at 10 a.m. Friday. The rest of the Montana State men's and women's squads make their Big Sky Championship debuts at 1:30 p.m. starting with the women's weight throw and women's long jump.
