Track & Field Gets Off to Strong Start at Mountain States Games Friday

Three individuals take first place and both MSU distance medley relay squads earn top times to propel the Bobcats to a solid opening day in Pocatello
POCATELLO, Idaho – Two relay squads completed top times in their respective events while three Bobcats finished first individually to highlight Montana State track and field's opening day at the Mountain States Games Friday, Feb. 10, in Holt Arena on the campus of Idaho State University.
Both the MSU men's and women's distance medley relay squads crossed the line first with season-best times.
The women's relay of Kendra Larson, McKenna Ramsay, Kimberly Parsell and Christie Schiel completed a time of 11:56.40. The Bobcat men's quartet of Samuel Bloom, Jadin Casey, Frankie Hoerner and Zach Kughn finished with a mark of 10:10.11.
Isabella Calabrese matched the personal best she set a week ago to take first in the pole vault by clearing 12-05.50 (3.80m). Fellow Bobcat Carter Theade also cleared the same height but earned runner-up with a judge's decision.
Freshman Noah Martin finished first in the high jump by matching his personal best of 06-08.75 (2.05m). Aidan Pedersen also competed for the Bobcats in the event and finished in a tie for fifth.
Caleb Neth notched his lifetime best in the long jump by reaching a mark of 23-03.25 (7.11m) for first place. Trevor Simanski, Martin, Mason Storm and Alex Lewis finished 4-6-8-10 in the event, respectively.
MSU's Alyssa Snyder and Kyle Douglass each earned runner-up finishes for the Bobcats.
Snyder completed a personal-best time of 17:32.32 in the 5,000 which propelled her into the program's all-time top 10 list in the event. Douglass finished second in the shot put with a throw that reached 17.72 meters, leading an MSU contingent that included a fourth-place showing by Alec Nehring.
Adam Wollant (15:30.14) led the MSU men's team in the 5,000 by taking fourth with his best time of the year, Jacqueline Verlanic was the MSU women's squad's top finisher in the weight throw with her fourth-place showing and Megan Ralstin finished in seventh in the long jump.
Montana State continues action at the Mountain State Games Saturday morning inside of Holt Arena.
