12/17/2017 11:29:00 AM | Men's Basketball
MSU, Denver square off Monday at 7 pm in Worthington Arena
BOZEMAN, Mont. – With the rigors of final exams in the rear view mirror, Montana State looks to close the non-conference portion of its season in strong fashion hosting Denver on Monday night.
The Bobcats and DU meet with the Pioneers wrapping up a three-game road trip that began and ends in Big Sky territory. Northern Colorado topped their in-state rivals 83-63 in Greeley on Wednesday before Stanford broke away late for a 75-62 win on Friday. The Pioneers stand 5-7 overall, 4-2 at home and 1-5 away from Magness Arena.
Denver is led by 6-10 senior center Daniel Amigo, who averages 16.2 points and 7.6 boards a game, both team highs. Junior guard Joe Rosga, a former high school teammate of Bobcat Sam Neumann at St. Paul Cretin-Derham High School, scores 16.1 points a game. They are the only two Pioneers in double-digits.
Montana State rides its own two-pronged offensive attack, with Tyler Hall (19.3 ppg) and Harald Frey (13.9) leading an offense that gets 32% of its points from the three-point arc. Forwards Keljin Blevins, a 6-5 junior who adds 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds a game, and 6-5 senior Joe Mvuezolo (7.7 points, team-high eight blocked shots) each show signs of stepping forward as a consistent third offensive threat. Konner Frey, a 6-6 senior, leads the Bobcats with 5.4 rebounds a game.
Denver has out-shot (.459 to .411) and out-rebounded (37.8 to 31.3) its opponents, but the Pioneers have struggled with turnovers. DU averages 17.1 per game, while forcing 10.8 a contest. DU has turned the ball over 38 times on its current road swing, shooting 43% while allowing Stanford and UNC to connect at 51% in each tilt.
After Monday's game, the Bobcats head into Christmas break with a Thursday game at Omaha. Monday's game against Denver begins at 7 pm, with audio available statewide on the Bobcat Radio Network and at msubobcats.com. Video is available on Pluto.tv and WatchBigSky.com.
