Freshman Leads Cats at Gonzaga Invite

Montana State freshman Enni Zander recorded MSU’s lone victory at the Gonzaga Invite with a 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 decision over Marquette’s Isabella Franks, Friday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
Montana State freshman Enni Zander recorded MSU's lone victory at the Gonzaga Invite with a 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 decision over Marquette's Isabella Franks, Friday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
Four of MSU's singles matches went three sets as Laura Mary, Angelina Philippova and Annie Walker all went the distance. In doubles play, Mary and Emma Podeur gave the Bobcats its best effort of the day, before falling 7-6(5) to Portland's Paula Tormos Sanches and Fleur Eggink.
"Today was a huge learning day for our team," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "They have made tremendous strides as a team this fall. We have a lot of lessons to learn before they become habit, but the signs are beginning to show that we are beginning to understand how to prepare and play.
"Our ladies competed tough overall and gave themselves the opportunity to win some matches," Reeves added. "Our goal is to improve an equal amount over the next two days to complete our fall season."
Montana State will continue action at the GU Invitational on Saturday.
