Senior Delany Junkermier took to heart Montana State head coach Tricia Binford's challenge to the Bobcat upperclassmen at halftime to guide MSU to a big third quarter, en route to an 86-64 exhibition victory over Montana Tech, Wednesday night in Worthington Arena.

Junkermier, a product of Spokane, Wash., finished with a game-high 20 points on eight-of-10 from the field. She also connected on three 3-pointers and chipped in three rebounds, three steals and two assists, as well.

Montana State held a slim two-point advantage at intermission, but out-scored the Orediggers 27-10 in the third frame, shooting 56 percent from the field, and limiting Montana Tech to just 33 percent.

"We challenged the upperclassmen at halftime," Binford said. "The newcomers were fine. We just needed our veterans to play sharper, take care of the ball and rebound. They responded very well."

The Bobcats opened the third quarter with a 17-4 run and never looked back. MSU took its largest lead at 76-50 with 4:35 remaining on a three-pointer via freshman Tori Martell.

"We got to the glass in the second half," Binford said. "I think the early errors had more to do with jitters and getting everyone some reps. The veterans were more consistent in the second half and the newcomers were able to get their feet wet."

Also in double-digits for MSU were Martell and Blaire Braxton. Martell, a product of Somerset, Wis., finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Braxton, who played and started in all 32 games for the Bobcats last winter, finished with 14 points and ten rebounds. Braxton connected on seven-of-ten from the floor.

The Bobcats ended the contest shooting 49 percent, while holding Montana Tech to 35 percent. MSU also out-rebounded the Orediggers 43-35.

Montana Tech was paced by Sammy McGree with 19 points and four rebounds.

Montana State will host South Dakota Tech on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. in Worthington Arena in exhibition action.
