“After watching the film, we played two fairly solid quarters,” Binford said. “We were flat in the second quarter and turned the ball over due to some poor execution. We also lost the battle of the boards.”
Either way you look at it Montana State's quick turnaround from its opening exhibition game against Montana Tech on Wednesday night is just what Tricia Binford's squad needs. MSU hosts South Dakota School of Mines in its final exhibition tune-up, Friday at 6 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
"After watching the film, we played two fairly solid quarters," Binford said. "We were flat in the second quarter and turned the ball over due to some poor execution. We also lost the battle of the boards."
Behind senior Delany Junkermier's 20-point output along with double-figure scoring from Blaire Braxton and Tori Martell the Bobcats defeated the Orediggers 86-64.
"We'll look to carry over the momentum we built in the second half, while at the same time focusing on taking care of the ball, getting better spacing and having good pursuit in rebounding for a full 40-minutes."
Bobcat senior Rebekah Hatchard, who sat out Wednesday night with a hamstring injury, is expected back in the line-up against the Hardrockers.
"With Rebekah's return we'll have a little different look with our rotations," Binford said. "I was pleased that we got a variety of contributions on both ends of the court against Montana Tech."
Last winter, South Dakota Mines finished eighth in the 15-team NCAA Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 12-16 overall mark and a 10-12 league slate. Head coach Ryan Larsen returns nine letterwinners from last season.
"South Dakota Mines is a well-coached, disciplined team," Binford said. "They have a lot of ability to create havoc on the defensive end. We'll need to be much sharper in all four quarters."
