Montana State Multi Meet Kicks Off Indoor Track Slate Monday
1/8/2017 10:24:00 AM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Twenty-two athletes set to compete inside Brick Breeden Fieldhouse
Members of the Montana State track and field team will compete for the first time in 2017 when the Bobcats host the MSU Multis Meet beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, inside of Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
The Bobcats welcome runners from the University of Montana for the annual combined events meet to open the indoor season. Both teams will have student-athletes competing in the pentathlon and heptathlon. The pentathlon will wrap up on Monday, while the remaining three of the seven events in the heptathlon will take place on the MSU campus starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Both days of action are free and open to the public.
Twenty-two athletes will participate in the Multis Meet, with 14 of the entries coming from the men's side.
"It's really important to get a multi in early," Montana State assistant coach Tom Eitel said. "We get a chance to see where everyone is at and then decide on if they're going to do the multis the rest of the year, or if they're going to compete in their strong open events. It's definitely a gauge for us to see where we're at and where we're going."
Senior Jessica Chrisp leads a contingent of MSU athletes that are scheduled to compete in the pentathlon. Chrisp took second in this respective meet with 3,568 points a season ago and placed sixth in the event at the Big Sky Conference Championships.
Montana also boasts several strong competitors in the multi events, including Erika McLeod, the two-time Big Sky champion in the pentathlon and the long jump.
Then-junior Mason Storm was the top finisher at this meet a year ago in the heptathlon after accumulating 4,884 points with top marks in the 60-meter dash and 60m hurdles. He joins a large group of Bobcat athletes that will compete in multiple events over a two-day span.
The entire Montana State men's and women's track and field team makes its first appearance of the 2017 indoor campaign on Friday inside Worthington Arena. Field events take place at the MSU Invitational Friday at 3:30 p.m., followed by the start of running events at 5 p.m.
