Kyle Douglass's career-best shot put garners him Big Sky honors
OGDEN, Utah – Montana State's Kyle Douglass helped the Bobcats complete a strong performance at the MSU Invitational Friday and was recognized by the Big Sky Conference as the men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Douglass earned the best shot put of his collegiate career by throwing 58-04.50 (17.79m). The throw was the only one over 17 meters and just one of two over 16 meters at the Invite. His shot put also placed him atop the early Big Sky Conference performance chart, leading the field currently by over six inches. The junior from Missoula, Mont., improved his MSU all-time top 10 performance, which he currently is fifth among Bobcats in program history.
His first shot put of the season also ranks him among the top 30 in Division I track and field, with him just 1 1/2 feet from being among the top 10 in the nation. The Big Sky Athlete of the Week nod is the second of his career.
The Montana State men's and women's track and field teams return to action at Worthington Arena on Friday, Jan. 20, at 4 p.m. with a meet against Idaho State, Montana and Utah State.
