Matinee pits high-scoring guards Tyler Hall and UNC's Jordan Davis
Brian Fish knows it's a well-worn line. He also knows it's true.
"I know I sound like a broken record," Fish says while beginning to dissect Northern Colorado, who the Bobcats face Saturday at 2 pm in Worthington Arena, "but every team in the league has a good guard. They start conventionally, but pretty quickly they go to four guards and they get rolling."
Sophomore Jordan Davis leads the Bears, pouring in 20.3 points a game while pulling down 4.7 rebounds. He also dishes out a league-leading 5.5 assists a game.
"He's a dynamic player," Fish says of Davis. "And he's a sophomore, so he has a year of experience. You see a great guard every game in this league, and he's next for us."
Next for Northern Colorado is Bobcat sophomore Tyler Hall, who pushed past the career 1,000-point milestone in his 49th game Thursday. That made him the fastest Bobcat ever to hit that mark, and he also notched his first double-double of the season by netting 23 points with 11 rebounds.
Both the Cats and Bears dropped their Thursday night contests. North Dakota used a mid-second half spurt and brilliant free throw shooting late to hold the Bobcats at bay. In Missoula, Montana jumped out early, led by 20 at halftime, and never looked back, beating the Bears 89-68.
Saturday's game marks the fourth in MSU's first six conference contests against teams with winning league records. Next week, the Cats head to Sacramento State for a Thursday contest before visiting Portland State on Saturday.
