Bobcat Freshman Wins ISU Invite Singles Title

Playing in her second collegiate tennis tournament, Montana State freshman Chloe Goyette gave the Bobcats a glimpse of things to come winning the singles title with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Utah State’s Maggie O’Meara at the Idaho State Invitational in Pocatello.
Playing in her second collegiate tennis tournament, Montana State freshman Chloe Goyette gave the Bobcats a glimpse of things to come winning the singles title with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Utah State's Maggie O'Meara at the Idaho State Invitational in Pocatello.
"Chloe put her head down and competed well all weekend," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "I am proud of her effort and willingness to accept information and immediately make an adjustment. It is great for Chloe to get her first college tournament win."
Goyette, a product of Yakima, Washington, almost pulled off the double as she combined with sophomore transfer Laura Mary in doubles action. The twosome fell in the championship match to O'Meara and Hannah Kane 7-5.
Senior Shelby Cerkovnik also had a strong weekend for the Bobcats placing fourth in the Orange singles bracket. Cerkovnik paired with freshman Sierra Winch and the duo eventually lost in the finals of the doubles consolation draw to Utah State's Sophis Halaes and Hannah Jones 6-1.
"Overall, we had our second positive weekend," Reeves said. "We are beginning to see the tendencies of our team. This clarifies the positives and the areas we need to address and improve."
MSU will compete at the Utah State Invitational next weekend in Logan.
