Cat Netters Earn Big Sky Honors

Three Montana State women’s tennis players earned All-Big Sky Conference honors, including one of MSU’s most prolific doubles tandems, announced the league office Friday afternoon.
Three Montana State women's tennis players earned All-Big Sky Conference honors, including one of MSU's most prolific doubles tandems, announced the league office Friday afternoon.
Junior Laura Middel, who played at No. 1 singles and doubles, garnered First-Team All-Big Sky accolades, while junior Naomi Holopainen and sophomore Angelina Philippova received all-conference honorable mention kudos.
Middel, a native of Hoogezand, Netherlands, posted a 12-10 overall record in singles action. In Big Sky play, she notched a 9-2 mark and closed out the season winning six of her last nine matches. In doubles, she combined with Holopainen at the top slot where the duo went undefeated in Big Sky play with an 11-0 record. The tandem notched a 17-5 overall ledger.
Aside from her doubles prowess, Holopainen played at No. 2 singles for the Bobcats and tallied a 7-16 overall mark and a 5-6 Big Sky record.
Also earning honorable mention recognition was Philippova, who registered a 13-8 overall singles record, including a 10-5 mark at No. 4 singles. She also posted a 9-2 ledger in Big Sky action. In doubles, she teamed with Jessica Brycki to notch a 10-10 overall mark and a 6-4 Big Sky slate at the No. 2 spot.
Montana State finished the season 8-15 overall and 6-5 in Big Sky Conference play. The Bobcats advanced to the Big Sky Tournament, where it lost to Weber State in the quarterfinals.
