Bobcats Wrap Up Productive Trip Through Southern California

Kyle Douglass posts second-best discus throw in school history

As tours of California go, long-time Bobcat track and field coach calls the past four days for his team "very productive."

MSU student-athletes competed in six different track meets covering four days and a huge chunk of the Los Angeles area, and Kennedy could scarcely be more pleased. "This has been a very productive four days," Kennedy said. "The kids competed extremely well against very high-level competition. We had a lot of athletes that really stepped up."

The most impressive performance of the weekend may have come from Kyle Douglass. The sophomore from Missoula finished second in the discus at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate with a toss of 182-6. That is the second-best discus mark in MSU history (behind only Lance Deal), and is a 14-foot improvement on his personal best throw. Douglass also finished fourth in the shot put (52-6) and 10^th in the shot put at the Beach Open (55-1).

"That was a great performance," Kennedy said. "Kyle really had a great weekend."

In all, MSU athletes posted eight lifetime best marks over the weekend, and five other season's best marks. Zach Sharp (sr., Billings) finished 10^th in the Beach Open's hammer throw on Friday. His 197-5 checks in at eighth on MSU's all-time list.

The Bobcats return to Bozeman for the final home meet of 2016 next Saturday, when Montana State hosts the annual Cat-Griz dual. Kennedy said the meet is an annual highlight, but the Bobcats have several injury concerns that may hamper the teams' competitiveness. "This is a really important meet for everyone in our program," he said. "It will be really important to get some people healthy this week."
